Another semester dawns.
From Rebeccah Toh, back in March
These days I’m trying to write whenever I have the time. Instead of writing only when I make myself sit down to write and doing it for an hour, and thinking that is the right way to do it, I’m trying to write whenever and wherever. It’s actually not too different from what I’ve always been doing. The difference is now I am also allowing myself to see that these little notes I’m writing are not just discardable notes but smaller parts of a bigger piece of work.
Came across this post when I was trawling back through old items in my RSS reader and it resonated with me. Both in terms of my academic work and in terms of my oh-so-very-fledgling attempts to work in some bit of creative writing to my daily habit.
This thinking about rhythms and habits is necessarily also brought on by still being in the process of settling into a new place, while confronting a good deal of work that needs to be this semester not just on my prospectus but also on funding applications, coupled with…gestures at whole world. Holding bits of time for myself is helping.
